FAQs

What chemicals are used to make Nano4Life products?

Nano4Life products use Silicon Dioxide (SiO2 - also known as ‘liquid glass’), which is a pure, safe, unreactive and colourless compound, which occurs as the mineral quartz and is a primary ingredient used in the manufacturing of glass. Silicon Dioxide is the earth’s most abundant mineral. Nano4Life products are primarily of two types: for porous and fibrous surfaces, Nano4Life products are water-based, while for non-porous surfaces Nano4Life products are ethanol-based.

What is Nanotechnology?

Nanotechnology is the study of manipulating matter on an atomic and molecular scale. A human hair is 80,000 Nano meters thick. It’s so small that it’s invisible to the naked eye.

How does Nanotechnology work in Nano4Life products?

Once Nano4Life products have been applied, the product bonds to the relevant surface on a Nano scale (80,000 times smaller than a strand of human hair) forming an ultra-thin, durable and invisible protective coating. This coating protects against bacteria, UV radiation, stains and water damage. Nano4Life products are eco-friendly and non-toxic and do not in any way damage the surfaces to which they are applied, resulting in non-slippery coating making cleaning fast and easy.

Nano4Life has also received the ECO PASSPORT certificate from the HOHENSTEIN Textile Testing Institute GmbH & Co, which affirms that our products meet the very strict specifications of the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 product classes I-IV and that Nano4Life products may even be utilised in clothes worn by babies and infants.

Can I paint or apply any other chemicals over a Nano4Life coated surface?

It is not recommended that you paint over or use any other chemicals on a Nano4Life coated surface, as you will lose the product’s hydrophobic affect. Furthermore, the applied paint may not stick on top of the Nano4Life coating, while some chemicals may actually ruin the Nano4Life coating depending on its composition.

Can I use Nano4-Stone and Nano4-Wood over painted surfaces and over any other chemicals?

It is not recommended to apply Nano4-Stone and Nano4-Wood onto painted surfaces or over any other chemicals as our product may not absorb or bond to that surface well. However, if it does bond – then the Nano coating may just be sitting on top of the previous coating and when the original coating comes off, the Nano coating will come off as well.

For best results, it is recommended that Nano4Life products be applied to a clean, dry and untreated surface. The more absorption from the relevant material to which a Nano4Life product is applied to, then generally the better the protection that is offered.

Why do your products come at a premium price?

Our prices reflect the high quality and also the high cost of the ingredients used in our Nano4Life product range. That’s why most of our products offer an outstanding 5 years of protection, whereas many of our competitors may not offer that.

What makes Nano4Life products unique?

Nano4Life products are non-toxic, eco-friendly, and safe to humans and also our environment. Our Nano-coating is an invisible coating, which does not in any way change the original surface when our products are applied. The curing time of our Nano4Life products is normally 24-48 hours. Moreover, our Nano4Life products utilise a simple application process and offers long lasting protection of up to 5 years for most of our product range, which will ultimately save your precious time and your hard earned money in the long run.

Does coating with Nano4Life change the appearance and/or texture of the surface to which it is applied?

Coating with Nano4Life does not in any way change the appearance and/or texture of any surface to which it is applied if applied in according to instructions.

Should Nano4Life products be mixed with water or any other liquid before application?

It is recommended that you MUST NOT MIX or DILUTE any of the Nano4Life products before application and that you just apply our products as instructed.

What does 100% breathable mean?

100% breathable means that when Nano4Life products are applied to a particular surface, it allows that surface to breathe. Compared to other products on the market, if a similar product is applied to a surface it is not 100% breathable, moisture gets trapped underneath the surface to which it is applied, which may cause bacteria and mould to build up.

What is the shelf life for Nano4Life Products?

Shelf life is generally up to 2 years. Refer to the expiry date labelled on the relevant bottle.

How do I store Nano4Life products?

Some Nano4Life products are ethanol-based, thus making them flammable. When storing Nano4Life products, make sure that they are stored in areas where there is no smoking permitted, no fires and/or open flames.

Store Nano4Life products in a cool and dry place and ensure that no power short circuits and/or sparks are able to occur nearby.

How long do Nano4Life products last?

If applied correctly, most Nano4Life products protect the surface to which they are applied for up to 5 years. Prerequisites for this are that there are no abrasions to the coated surface and that strong chemicals are not used to clean the coated surface. PH Value 14 or above can destroy the effect.

In the case of Nano4-Car Glass windscreen coatings, protection is up to 20,000kms or up to 12 months, depending on how often you use the windscreen wipers. Nano4-Wheel Rims protects rims for up to 12 months. For textiles and carpets Nano4Life protection can generally last up to 20 washes, while some textiles may last even longer. Please note: Nano4Life products do not protect against acid, etching and high water pressure above 50 bars.

What if the surface is scratched / exposed to abrasion?

If the surface to which a Nano4Life product is applied is damaged due to abrasion, there is a higher possibility that the Nano4Life coating could be worn off and the protection offered is not as effective. All you need to do is re-apply the relevant Nano4Life product again as recommended.

How many coats do I need to apply?

Will Nano4-Stone make the floor slippery?

No, none of the Nano4Life products will affect the surface to which it is applied making it more slippery.

How should I clean a surface after it’s been coated with Nano4Life products?

Spray water on the surface and use a cloth to clean if necessary (depending on the surface) as cleaning of Nano4Life coated surfaces is made faster and easier than uncoated surfaces.

Nano4Life coated surfaces are designed to reduce up to 90% of chemical usage when compared to uncoated surfaces.

You can also use mild detergents mixed with water and use a microfiber cloth to clean if necessary. Nano4Life products do not protect against acid, etching, wear and water pressure 50 bar and above.

We recommend that any spills onto coated surfaces should be cleaned up immediately to minimise absorption. If there is any staining of Nano4Life coated surfaces, normal cleaning methods should be used to remove the stain, the reapplication of the relevant Nano4Life product should be undertaken according to the relevant instructions.

I have applied Nano4Life products a few months ago and I don’t see the lotus effect / beading effect anymore....why? Has the Nano4Life protection worn off?

If the relevant Nano4Life product has been applied correctly as per the relevant instructions, the Nano4Life protection should not have worn off. The Nano4Life coating is probably dirty, where dirt particles on the relevant coating may prevent beading / lotus effect. The effect should reappear once you clean the coated surface properly. Also depending on the surface like dense or hard timber surface, the hydrophobic affect may not be as obvious as on soft timber surface but the surface is still protected. Dense or hard timber surface does not absorb the nano as much as soft timber hence the hydrophobic affect is less obvious.

Why are there small lines and/or streaks marks on the surface after application when using Nano4-Glass Ceramic?

Ensure that the Nano4-Glass Ceramic product has been polished onto the surface correctly. Make sure that sufficient time is taken to polish the Nano coating until it becomes dry and clear of any streak marks.

After coating a plastic surface, I am unable to make out the difference between the coated and uncoated surface?

Plastics are petroleum-based products. Additives that trigger a beading effect have already been used in the production of plastics hence they already have a beading / lotus effect. However, Nano4-Plastic does not only help to repel water, it offers additional protection against stains, dirt, grease, food scraps, oil, discolouration, UV radiation, bacteria, abrasion and makes cleaning of the coated surface fast and easy.

I have applied Nano4Life onto bath tiles, glass and bath fittings, however, I feel the effect is reduced in some months. Why?

Nano4Life application makes the coated surface easier to clean with less cleaning frequency needed, but does not result in 100% self-cleaning surface. A routine cleaning is needed to keep your Nano4Life coated surfaces clean. A Nano4Life coating will cause water to bead up into, distinct drops. Most of the drops, which are larger in size and weight, will drop off easily and the smaller drops will remain. Cleaning these remaining drops from Nano4Life coated glass is easier.

If the coated glass is not cleaned, minerals and soap scum can dry and bond to the surface forming a visible mark, which in any case can be removed easily with a damp cloth.

Conversely, glass surfaces unprotected by Nano4-Glass Ceramic will begin to etch slowly and become damaged due to the minerals and salts contained in water.

How should I clean / maintain Nano4Life treated glass, tiles and marble floors?

Avoid the use of harsh toxic cleaners. Use environmentally friendly products. It is recommended to clean the coated surfaces at least once a fortnight or more using water mixed with a mild detergent and a damp microfiber cloth. You may also choose to use a mild acid or ammonia free cleaner. On bathroom glass fixtures, a simple wipe down should easily remove dirt, soap scum, hard water build-up and contaminants from Nano4Life coated surfaces.
